In February 2012, The Bettles City Council passed resolution 2012-5 in support of the road to Ambler, but in June the city rescinded the resolution after being petitioned by the vast majority of Bettles residents who oppose the road. Bettles mayor Richard Thorne and other council members were likely not aware that their constituents largely oppose the road when they voted for resolution, but after a petition was circulated among residents and other stakeholders showing strong opposition to it, the City Council rescinded resolution 2012-5 and passed resolution 2012-8 in its place. The city also wrote a letter to all parties that had received copies of the original resolution apologizing for the mistake that was made in gauging public sentiment regarding the road.
